One of our upcountry members is a professional master planning coordinator. Recently he has guided a small group of county coordinators and board members through the planning process in order to clarify South Carolina League objectives.

The choice to engage in any one project ensures that other projects must be forgone or delayed. Strategic planning can make for better choices. Over the years the SCL has accomplished many things. Now we are entering a new phase where it makes sense to fit everything we do tightly within a plan.

The first phase was easy. That was the creation of a vision statement.

Features of an effective vision statement may include:

  • Clarity and lack of ambiguity
  • Paint a vivid and clear picture, not ambiguous
  • Describing a bright future (hope)
  • Memorable and engaging expression
  • Realistic aspirations, achievable
  • Alignment with organizational values and culture, Rational
  • Time bound if it talks of achieving any goal or objective

I’ll keep you updated.
